Food glorious food!

Anyone who knows me, knows I love food, fitness and... the garden birds. Most people love the birds and regularly feed them seeds and nuts; mine often get grapes which I tear up into smaller pieces, particularly on hot days in summer, for my blackbird who visits every day. Other people spend a fortune on pet food, which nowadays includes all sorts of vegetables and expensive meats, including venison, wild boar and duck, which we rarely eat ourselves. But we need to feed ourselves nutritionally rich foods too. Have you ever heard the saying 'You can't out train a bad diet'? Well, you can lose weight on a bad diet; so long as your calorie intake is less than your calorie output, you could eat only junk food and do this - but health is much more than just your weight or your clothes size. Have a think about how much of your regularly consumed food is processed (or even ultra-processed) and see if you can make some swaps for healthier alternatives, cut back on how often you're having them and ask yourself if they're helping you to reach your goal. Can you add more nuts and seeds into your diet? Perhaps swap to nut butter instead of jam on toast. Have a look at how much sugar is in that cereal bar you have, which has packaging portraying it to be healthy - could you be better off with a piece of fruit and a Greek yoghurt for your snack instead?

Keep checking back and I'll be posting in more detail about macro and micro nutrients, along with tips on a balanced diet, pre- and post-workout nutrition.
